So I am actually in Week 5 at this point but I figured I’d put this post up since I wrote it and forgot to publish it. Anyways, here it is…
If haven’t read my previous “Cross Training” post, here is a quick update. Winter has been super slow this year in Savannah and I was completely out of shape from the winter months. I decided I would try something new to occupy my time so I began Cross Training with my friend Lene. She has similar goals for strength and endurance training and also has an interest in entering some triathlons and races in the future. I started out pretty relaxed but, like with every other sport, I became slightly addicted. I’ve been tracking my progress through the past three weeks and will continue to do so until I get tired of writing things down. Anyways, here’s a “Week 3 Update”.
During week three of training I focused more on swimming, less on biking and a lot on strength training. I swam three time this week, biked once and lifted 4 times. Mid week my lower back was strained and towards the end of the week I strained my shoulder. Both minor setbacks that didn’t keep me from working out but may have affected my overall performance.
My goal for swimming this week was to really focus on technique. I worked on stroke technique, breathing technique and endurance. I didn’t realize how much I was actually doing wrong until I started completing my technique drills. Overall, I feel that my swimming technique has improved tremendously over the course of one week and I am excited to continue to progress over the next week.
I had planned to bike at least twice this week but because of the weather conditions I was limited to only one ride this week. The ride was much shorter than others and I was definitely holding back because of the strain on my lower back. I enjoyed riding a shorter distance and focusing on keeping a steady pace however I know I will beat my pace next time.
Running. I’ve been putting off running but plan on starting in week 4. I wanted to strengthen my core before I started a higher impact sport. I have more experience training for running so I didn’t think it was important to rush right into it. It will be interested to see how easy or difficult it will be to balance a training schedule for all three sports. I’m glad that I enjoy all three equally.
Kiting. Ugh. I have been off the water for way to long. It is partially because of the cold weather conditions but primarily because of the crappy wind conditions. I think my training will be really great for my season and I am looking forward to progressing where I left off.
I’ve attached my Week 3 Cardio workouts for the past week. I will also be attaching my Week 3 Gym plan. Feel free to copy some of these workouts they are mainly designed for Triathlon training.
